Green Team

The Green Team have been busy having their meetings every Tuesday. Well done to Kieran Spain who came up with a brilliant slogan for our 5th Green Flag,  – ‘Moss, trees, bogs and bats, protect our precious habitat’. The theme for the 5th  Flag is Biodiversity.

We are currently working on a seasonal study of the deciduous trees at the front of our school. Johnny Spain, our School’s caretaker kindly named them for us and we have taken photographs of an Autumn and Winter view of these trees. This display will soon be completed and it can be seen on one of the notice boards in the halla. We hope to do the same for Spring and Summer.

Before Christmas we purchased bird feeders for our school. The Green Team keep a watchful eye on them and refill them if necessary. We are also keeping a record of same.

A reminder too about our Yes/No list with regard to our healthy eating lunch policy. Copies are also displayed on the Parent Noticeboard in the school.

Active Flag

We are currently working towards our 1st Active Flag at Kilruane N.S.,co-ordinated by Ms.Lawlor. The Active School Flag is a Department of Education initiative which recognises schools that strive to achieve a physically active school community. In order to achieve this goal we will be organising an ‘Active School’s Week’ later in the year and implementing improvements across the P.E. curriculum. The overall goal is to increase physical activity and extra curricular activities in our school and promote a healthy lifestyle. In line with the Active School Flag initiative, the school are delighted to introduce Judo classes after the mid-term break. An information letter will be sent out after the break.
