First Holy Communion

Ms.Lawlor’s First Holy Communion class are busy preparing for their First Holy Communion  which will take place this Saturday (3rd May) in Kilruane Church at 11.30a.m.

We hope the sun shines on Saturday and we wish the children and their families a happy and

holy day. A big thank you to all the choir children who are singing so beautifully during their choir practices  and for making such a special effort to be there on the day.

Our School Garden

Before Easter some Sixth class pupils were given the task to prepare the raised beds for this year’s planting in our school garden. They weeded and dug the beds in preparation. All the children were involved in planting a variety of different vegetables. Junior Infants each planted an onion bulb and in groups they planted strawberry plants. Senior Infants and First class planted broccoli. Second class planted Brussel sprouts and third class planted cauliflower. Fourth , Fifth and Sixth classes are due to plant carrots, lettuce and potatoes later this week. A couple of pumpkins will also be planted, which should be ready to harvest in time for decoration this Halloween. Hopefully we will have a good harvest this year, like last year, so everyone will be able to enjoy some home grown organic vegetables.

Yoga for Schools

As you already know we are hoping to secure our first Active Flag at Kilruane NS this year. Our main aim is to encourage children to be physically fit and to engage in a healthy lifestyle. Structured yoga classes can help children with their overall fitness, balance, flexability and concentration. Local Yoga teacher, Siobhán O’Leary has kindly offered to take all classes for an introductory yoga session this Friday.

Yoga classes with Siobhán, will continue for five Fridays for the following classes only Junior and SeniorInfants and First Class. We ask for a donation of €5 per child, (Juniors, Seniors and First Classes only) to go towards the cost of running these classes. The BOM will subsidise the remainder from monies raised through fundraising activities.

Judo for Schools Programme

Judo classes finished up just before the holidays. The children really enjoyed the sessions and made great progress from start to finish, culminating in an awards ceremony on the last day, when each child was awarded a ‘White Belt’ in Judo. A first for Kilruane NS !

The following children were presented with a special trophy by James, marking their outstanding efforts over the six weeks.
