Sports Day – Thank You
A big thank you to all the parents who turned out in such great numbers for Sports Day 2014. Firm favourites this year were the obstacle race and novelty races, with the wellie throwing, penalty shootout and basketball shoots coming in a close second.
A big thank you to Ms.Maguire who co-ordinated the event at the school and to all the teachers who gave her a helping hand with organisational matters.
Thanks to our volunteer helpers on the day, Patsy Dunne and Darragh Peters. Thanks also to our past pupils who helped out at the different stations when their assistance was needed.
Active Week
Active week was a great success and surely a week to remember for the pupils of Kilruane NS .What a lovely way to draw a close to the school year 2013-14 ! The children enjoyed parachute games ,rounders, basketball, a 5k walk, yard games, dodgeball, soccer lessons on Wednesday ( courtesy of Nenagh Soccer Club ) , our annual Sports Day on Thursday and yoga with Siobhán on Friday . Ms.Lawlor will submit the Active Flag application on behalf of our school in the coming weeks. We hope (fingers crossed !!) to hear that we have been successful during the first term next year.

Green Flag
As you already know we are currently working towards securing our 5th Green Flag at Kilruane NS. As part as this initative , 6th Class , including Green Team members Laura and Kieran , paid a visit to the Eco Village in Cloughjordan. They enjoyed a very informative powerpoint presentation on arrival followed by a guided tour of the village. A big thank you to Deirdre, Brenda and Joanna who looked after us so well and to the many residents at the Village who popped out of their houses to say a friendly hello. Sixth class then travelled to Gurteen Agricultural College where they were given a guided tour of the campus by Anne Hogan, Chairperson BOM. Thanks Anne for organising the trip!
In addition, Jenny Fahey from An Taisce paid a visit to the school recently and carried out workshops in each class on Climate Change. Her visit was funded by North Tipp Co.Council.
We look forward to continuing our fifth ‘Green Flag ‘ journey next year.
School Garden
Our School Garden is really flourishing this year especially our broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, onions and strawberries . We hope to harvest our vegetables in September, this year. Thank you to George and Georgie O’Leary who have volunteered to look after our garden during the holidays. Our window boxes and hanging baskets have been much admired, both have really filled out in recent weeks and add such a splash of colour to the front of the school.
