Friendship Week

Last year all schools in the country, both Primary and Secondary were required to update their Anti Bullying policy. In line with our revised policy, the children are enjoying a ‘Friendship Week ‘, this week at the school. The central theme for our friendship week is our school motto – ‘Kind Hands, Kind Feet, Kind Words’.

Fr. Tom celebrated a ‘friendship’ Mass with the children on Monday morning. In addition, the children will hear stories, make posters and poems all based on the theme of friendship formation and bullying awareness.

Active Flag

Sylvia O’Sullivan from the Active Flag awarding committee called to our school to assess our application for an ‘Active Flag ‘ based on our activities during the school year 2013-14.

Ms.Lawlor organised a mini display of just some of the activities we introduced last year, including judo, yoga, dance and athletic displays.

A big thank you to Siobhán and Darragh for their help with the Yoga and Judo sessions.

Please call to the school to see our Active Flag notice board in reception, where some of our children’s many fine sporting achievements can be seen.

Sylvia will be making her final decision in the coming days and we hope to have our ‘Active Flag’ flying before the year is out.

Green Flag

Áine Ní Fhlatharta, Educational Co-Ordinator, Irish Seed Savers Association, called to the school last Monday to conduct a full day’s workshop with senior classes. She gave a very informative power point presentation on biodiversity during her morning session followed by a ‘test your knowledge quiz’ between breaks. Áine then accompanied Mrs O’Meara, our Green Schools co-ordinator, the Green Team and 4th class on a tour of our school grounds.

Payments to the Office

Please settle any outstanding book rental, art and craft and insurance payments before the mid-term break.

Athletics

Training for the annual Nenagh Olympic Athletics Meet for 4th to 6th  classes is in full swing. Our final after school training session will take place after the mid-term break on Wednesday, 5th November from 3 to 3.45. Parent volunteer, Bríd Morgan will also attend the last session to help with the final preparation for the meet on Thursday, 6th November. Thank you to Ms.Maguire and Ms.Lawlor for giving so freely of their time after school.

Well done to our athletics team who put in a terrific performance at the Primary Schools Cross-Country Championships in Thurles recently. A special mention to Hannah Grace who secured a bronze medal in her 800m race.

Unwanted Books and Toys

Please continue to send any unwanted books for our school library and toys for our Aistear programme to the school. Thank you to the Parents’ Association for taking such an active part in helping us to stock up on these items.

Trick or Treat for Templestreet

Please remember our annual fundraiser for the Isobel Duff Memorial Foundation at Templestreet Children’s Hospital takes place this Friday at the school. Children can wear fancy dress or their own clothes. A small donation would be most welcome for this worthy cause, ( €1 to €2 per child or whatever you can afford). Children can bring a small treat in their lunchboxes as it is a very special day at Kilruane NS.

French Classes

French classes begin after the Mid-term for all classes. Please contact Fanny Healy, (mobile no. 0858199291), our French teacher if you would like to secure a place in our after school classes.

Cumann Na mBunscol

Hard luck to our u13 football team who were narrowly defeated in the championship blitz in Cloughjordan last Thursday. Our team gave a fine performance but unfortunately luck was not with us on the day. The children are already looking forward to the u11 and u13 hurling and camogie championship which will start up in the Spring.

Mid-term break

We close this Friday (usual hometimes), for the mid-term break. The school will re-open on Monday, 3rd November. Enjoy the break everybody!
