Flags for Schools Initiative
To commemorate the centenary of the 1916 rising and to celebrate 100 years since the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, the government has tasked the Irish Defence Forces with delivering a National Flag and copy of our Proclamation to every primary school in the country. Our school received our flag and copy of the Proclamation on Wednesday 7th October, during a very special ceremony prepared by the teachers. Well done to all the children who took part in the ceremony and to those who played their tin whistles so beautifully. We look forward to Proclamation Day on March 15th 2016, when every school will be asked to raise their flags outside their schools.

Friendship Week
In line with our revised anti-Bullying policy, the children are enjoying a ‘Friendship Week ‘, this week at the school. The central theme for our friendship week is our school motto – ‘Kind Hands, Kind Feet, Kind Words’. The teachers will teach formal lessons from the Stay Safe programme and in addition, the children will hear stories, make posters and write poetry based on the theme of friendship formation and bullying awareness.

Trick or Treat for Templestreet
Please remember our annual fundraiser for the Isobel Duff Memorial Foundation at Templestreet Children’s Hospital takes place this Wednesday at the school. Children can wear fancy dress or their own clothes. A small donation would be most welcome for this worthy cause, (€1 to €2 per child or whatever you can afford). Children can bring a treat in their lunchboxes as it is a very special day at Kilruane NS.

Cumann Na mBunscol
Hard luck to our u13 football team who were defeated in the Cumann na mBunscol championship blitz held recently in Toomevara. Our team put in a brave performance but luck was not with us on the day. Thank you to the many parents who came along to support us! The children are already looking forward to the u11 and u13 hurling and camogie championship which will start up in late Spring.

Dromineer Literary Arts Festival
Well done to 4th class pupil Órna Daly, who won first prize in a Primary School Poetry Competition run by The Dromineer Literary Arts Festival Committee this school year. Órna was presented with her certificate and prize at an event held recently at the Yacht Club in Dromineer.
Unwanted Books
Please continue to send any unwanted books for our school library which will be up and running soon. Thank you to the Parents’ Association for taking such an active part in helping us to stock up on our collection of books.
Payments to the Office
We kindly ask that you settle any outstanding payments before the mid-term break. If you have any query in relation to your payments please contact the office.

Athletics at Kilruane NS
Well done to our School Cross Country Team who put in a another fantastic performance at the Primary Schools Cross Country Championship held in Thurles recently. A special mention for Hannah Grace and Christine Percy who came 2nd and 3rd respectively, in the girls 800m and to Eoin O Neill who came 2nd in the boys 800m. We would like to thank Ms. Maguire and Ms. Lawlor, who both facilitated the after school training sessions again this year.
The children from 4th to 6th classes are really looking forward to this year’s Primary Schools Indoor Athletics meet, run by Nenagh Olympic. The event will take place on the Wednesday after the midterm break at Nenagh Olympic’s indoor arena. This event is one of the highlights of our school’s sporting calendar. Parents are welcome to come along on the day to cheer us on.

Mid-term break
We close this Friday, 23rd October, (usual hometimes), for the mid-term break. The school will re-open on Monday, 2nd November. Enjoy the break everybody!
