Green Flag Raising Ceremony

As you all know, our school was awarded its fifth green flag earlier this term and we had a lovely ceremony earlier in the month to celebrate this great achievement for our school. Each class entertained us with a piece of music, a song or poem and Sixth Class read a very special poem written by our Green School’s co-ordinator Mrs. O Meara,  to remind us all of our green flag journey at Kilruane NS over the years. We thank Mrs. Mather, our guest of honour, for raising our flag and once again, we congratulate Mrs. O’Meara and her green team for all their hard work.

Sports Day

A big thank you, to the parents who were in a position to come along last Thursday to support our children for Sports Day 2017. We were delighted with the fine weather, just the right amount of sunshine to make it an enjoyable day for all. Thank you, to Ms. Maguire, who planned and co-ordinated the event at the school once again this year and to all the staff and who gave her a helping hand with organisational matters.

Booklists for September

Booklists for the School Year 2017/2018 were issued from the office today. Please check your child’s schoolbag. Booklists are also available on the school website, www.kilruaneschool.com

Active Week

Despite the poor weather earlier in the month, we really made the most of Active week this year, it was a great success and a lovely way to draw a close to the school year 2016/17! The children enjoyed indoor activities such as, yoga with Siobhán, Hip Hop with Michelle (thank you both for sharing your talents with us!) and luckily the sun came out on the Friday, for our weekly tennis lesson with Kieran. Due to the weather some of our activities spilled into this past week or two, including our Sports Day and School Hurling League.  The League took place over the past week, it is an event which is always a firm favourite with our senior classes and equally enjoyed by our younger children, who thoroughly enjoy cheering their favourite  team on from the sideline.

10k Walk/Parents Association

We completed our 10k walk last week and on behalf of the Parents Council I thank you for your kind sponsorship again this year. All monies raised by the Parents Association go directly back to the children and pay for ‘added extras’ such as the Tennis Lessons, recently enjoyed by all classes. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the PA for their continued support and  dedication and to remind you all that new members are always  welcome to join.

Farewell

It is always with a hint of sadness that we say goodbye to our Sixth class pupils every year. We are so proud of you all and we wish you all the very best of luck in your future studies, at your chosen schools. Goodbye to Caoimhe C, Brónagh, Caoimhe H, Mollie, Sarah, Tristan, Jack, Amy, Ciara, Aisling and Gráinne.  Go n-eirí an bóthar libh go léir!

On behalf of the staff, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Deirdre Talbot (5th/6th class teacher) for her hard work and commitment to our school over the past 6 months. We wish Deirdre the best of luck in her future teaching career.

Summer Break/Return Date

The school will close at 12.30pm on Wednesday  28th June for the Summer holidays. The school bus will run as usual. The school will re-open for the new school year on Wednesday 30th August for all pupils. Our School Calendar for the school year 2017/18 will be issued in September.

On behalf of the staff here at the school, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all most sincerely for your continued support during the past school year.

Have a lovely Summer break everybody!

 Ms. Kirby
