Mrs. O Meara’s Retirement

Our Deputy Principal, Mrs. Christine O Meara, one of the stalwarts here at the school over the past 32 years, announced her retirement from her teaching position earlier this month.

On behalf of the Board of Management, teaching staff, pupils and wider school community of Kilruane NS, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Christine most sincerely for her dedicated long service and commitment to our school over the years.

Christine, you will always be remembered here at Kilruane National School. You can look back with great pride at all you have accomplished. It is greatly appreciated.

We will miss you, not only for your great teaching but as a mentor and friend. While we are sad to see you go, we also take this opportunity to wish you God’s blessings, good health and happiness in the years ahead.  Comhghairdeachas agus gach dea-ghuí chugat ar do scaradh leis an bpost. Togha na sláinte agus sonas chugat san am atá le theacht.

Class Teachers/School Developments for September 2018

As you are aware, like many rural schools Kilruane National School will be going through a significant phase of School Development this coming school year. The Pupils and staff are really excited about the wonderful things that are happening for our school and are really looking forward to our shiny new extension in particular. There will be significant changes to the teaching staff come September, when we will be welcoming 3 new mainstream class teachers to our school. Unfortunately, it looks like the recruitment process to employ new teaching staff will not be completed before we close for the school holidays, therefore I cannot assign all class teachers to specific classes just yet.  This is outside of our control. As soon as we have finalised our new staff, we will inform you all of your child’s class teacher, if it isn’t already listed below. Classes will be as follows:

  • Junior Infants: Mrs. Kennedy
  • Senior Infants and First: Teacher be finalised
  • Second and Third: Teacher to be finalised
  • Fourth: Teacher to be finalised
  • Fifth and Sixth: Teacher to be finalised
  • ASD Class: Ms Sarah Carr
  • Learning Support/ Resource: Ms. Mairéad Kirby and Ms. Gene Maguire

BOOKLISTS for next year will be issued via schoolbags towards the end of next week and will also be published on website kilruaneschool.com later in the month.

Classroom Accommodation for September

As you are aware, the school has been sanctioned a fantastic new “State of the Art” extension, which will incorporate 2 mainstream classrooms and an ASD class with associated facilities. We are delighted to announce that we have been sanctioned purpose built temporary classrooms for September. These classrooms are currently being designed and built to meet our specific needs and to fit our school grounds. Classes from Second through to Sixth will remain in the main school building in September. The younger children, classes from Junior Infants to First will be allocated the temporary classrooms while the extension is ongoing.

Sports Day

As you are aware we had to postpone the sports day scheduled for yesterday due to the promise of poor weather. Sports Day will take place on Monday and we are looking forward to welcoming you all! A big thank you to Ms. Maguire, our Sports co-ordinator here at the school for all the hard work and planning she has put into organising the day!

Active Week

We have planned a lovely “Active Week” for the children’s final week of the Summer term, beginning with our Sports Day on Monday. We will also have Yoga with Siobhán, Tennis lessons with Annmarie and a soccer training day with James Scott from the FAI. Class teachers will also incorporate parachute games, rounders and other yard games into an already packed week. Hopefully we will continue to enjoy this great spell of fine weather until Friday.

Parents Association 10k walk

The children completed the Parents Association Annual 10k walk today with great gusto! Well done to everybody. On behalf of the PA, we thank you all for your generous sponsorship. As you know, all monies raised by our PA go directly to the children, paying for ‘added extras’ like the Tennis Lessons the children are currently enjoying. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the PA for their continued support of our school during the year and the PA have asked me to let you know that new members are always welcome!

Summer Holidays

The school will close for the Summer holidays on Friday 22nd June at 12:30. We will re-open for the new school year on Thursday 30th August. Have a lovely Summer everybody and let’s hope the sun keeps shining!

Farewell

It is always with a little hint of sadness that we say goodbye to our friends in Sixth class every year. We are so proud of you all and we wish you the very best of luck in your future studies at your chosen secondary schools. Goodbye to Colm, Conal, Craig, Daragh, Eoin, Christine, Emma, Hannah, Kelsey, Lucy, Maria, Megan, Mikaela, Orlagh and Órna. Go n-eirí an bother libh go léir!
